About EAC

  • Elderly Accommodation Counsel's mission is to help older people make informed choices about meeting their housing and care needs. It was founded in 1984, and became registered as a charity in 1985. It is now more commonly known as EAC.

Research & development

  • We collect and compile huge amounts of information about housing, support and care services for older people, and the organisations that provide these.
  • We develop tools to help older people make successful decisions, such as our housing options appraisal tool ‘HOOP’ and our 'Care Options' classification of care homes by ethos and lifestyle characteristics.
  • The kitemarking concept promoted in this site aims to help older people understand more about housing with care generally, and distinguish clearly between the many different models.
  • We produce statistical analyses and presentations for housing and care providers, combining information on existing housing & care provision with insights we gain through our contact with older people, to help them improve their services and develop new ones.

Websites

  • www.HousingCare.org is the best known of our sites. It makes available almost all of our information and tools, for the benefit of older people themselves and agencies and professionals who have contact with them. It reaches 2,500 users every day.
  • www.TheHouseKey.org provides information about housing support services in Scotland
  • www.ArtAwards.eac.org.uk celebrates our annual event for older amateur artists

Advice Line

  • We deliver a telephone information & advice service to older people, their families and carers, covering the whole spectrum of housing, support and care. 8,000 people use the service every year, the majority of whom receive a comprehensive, personal ‘options report’ from us the following day by post.
